my gray hair will look as cool as hers?
This is a new blog. I will attempt to blog at least weekly, whether I feel like it or not!
I am not going to bother with a boring introduction, because if you read one of my blogs and find it interesting, you will get to know me over time!
First topic: My graying hair. First of all, it's important to note that I started going gray at 15 or 16 years old. That's seriously early, folks! Anyway, I have been "mostly gray" underneath all of the hair dye since about 25 or so...I'm currently 37. Over the last few months, I have been noticing that I have a pronounced "skunk stripe" only about 2-3 weeks after coloring...with dark blondish caramel!
I quit smoking about 3+ months ago in an attempt to get healthier in general for my kidos (I have a lot of health problems anyway). I started wondering what all that hair dye could be doing to me...they say it's safe, but cigarettes used to be prescribed by physicians, so I tend not to trust "them" as much as I trust my own common sense. If a chemical smells caustic, it's probably not good for me.
So I found the most awesome website, http://goinggraylookinggreat.com, which has given me the courage to chop my hair off and let the gray grow out! So off I went to Great Clips (I figured what the heck, they couldn't mess it up too bad!) to get my "Jamie Lee Curtis" pixie cut.
I was worried how it would look, since the nonsmoking vixen me is a curvy size 14, but I have had TONS of compliments. The best of which was a very young, very fashionable fellow "cheer mom" who said "WOW you look so young now!" YAY ME!! Anyway, I still have about an inch and a half on average of blonde on the ends which I'm anxious to be rid of...hopefully before I start my DCBS (child protection) social work internship. When it is all in, maybe I'll post before and after pictures ;)

Hi Leigh! I'm so glad you followed my blog because it led me to yours and I love it. I also started going gray in my teens and I'm 34 and STILL dying it. I'd love to cut it short and start over but I have terribly curly hair and am afraid I'd be a pasty Irish girl with an afro. Sigh. I'd love to see pics of your new 'do!
ReplyDeleteHere is the pic! I will have to take one sometime that doesn't have my orange kitchen wall as the backdrop because the silver doesn't show as much as in "real life!" Maybe I'll try to get one outside sometime soon! Thanks for reading!
